ANTARCTICA LANDSCAPES 2016

Vast  landscapes, remote and wild, give a sense of being in another world.  A place sometimes devoid of color, sometime bathed in a majestic light with  black jagged rock juxtaposed against smooth white snow.  It is a land like no other.

ANTARCTICA ICE 2016

No matter how black and white the landscape appeared, the blue glow of the ice reminded you that there was color. The ever-present ice are the grand sculptures of mother nature.

ANTARCTICA ABSTACT 2016

Looking at landscape through telephoto lenses I began to see the textures, colors, light and shapes in ways that less represented the land and was more an emotional reaction to place and time.

ANTARCTICA WILDLIFE 2016

Seals and whales and birds, oh my!  The access to the wildlife was up close and personal.  In that way, it reminded us of the Galapagos Islands.  One is able to observe wildlife going about its business, paying you very little attention.

PENGUINS 2016

Iconic and animated, penguins are the personality of Antarctica.  Clumsy on land and graceful at sea.  It was a treat to watch them court, care and protect the eggs and nest,  while remaining vigilant against the constant threat from skuas and leopard seals.
