NORTH ENGLAND
A work trip took us to the area around Manchester. We visited the Lake District, but the weather did not cooperate. Luckily we were able to take some very nice walks in the Peak District National Park and visited historic Chester.
LAKE COMO, ITALY
My wife’s 50th birthday brought us and close friends to spend several days in Varenna, on the shores of Lake Como. We had been here in 2001, but poor weather diminished visibility greatly and shortened our stay. This time, the weather cooperated.
GENOA, ITALY
We had one night to fill between Varenna and Florence and we choose Genoa. We found a hotel across from the train station and went off to explore. Too bad we only had one day. The historic area is compact, steep, and full of narrow streets to explore.
BERLIN, GERMANY
On our way to Italy, we had a day in Berlin. We arrived early in the day and took a bus into the city center. We spent about 6 hrs walking around, before we had to get back to catch our flight. We came with no agenda and not knowing what to expect.
BARCELONA ARCHITECTURE
The architecture in Barcelona, Spain is impressive and unique. It is like no city I have ever visited. It becomes very difficult to decide which pictures to show as there is so much to see and so many pictures were taken.
BARCELONA EXPRESSION
Along with architecture, I was intrigued by the manners in which the people expressed themselves. Graffiti, decorations on balconies, murals, signage, and statues where everywhere.
BRUGGE, BELGIUM
We first visited Brugge in 2002 and had such a great time, we stayed an extra day. In ten years it felt a bit more touristy and crowded than our last visit, but remains a beautiful medieval town with great food and chocolate.
KEUKENHOF GARDENS, NE
We first visited these gardens in 2002. They are only open 2 months each year. Your timing determines what you see. We were earlier in the season this year which diminished the amount of blooms on bushes and trees. Nonetheless, spectacular.
LONDON, ENGLAND
Our daughter spent most of her freshman year of college studying in London. We’ve been in Heathrow many times, but have not spent much time in London. We spent time getting her situated and familiar with her new surroundings.
CORNWALL, ENGLAND
I was fortunate to reconnect with an old friend from high school who hosted us and was a fantastic tour guide. Here are picture from some of the towns and seaside villages we visited. We were lucky to have such great weather. Thanks Roxy.
LOOE, CORNWALL
Looe is a small coastal town and fishing port situated along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe. The river divides Looe into East and West Looe and they are connected by a bridge. Picturesque, quaint, and home to great pasties made for a great visit.
CORK, IRELAND
Cork was home for two years. As the second largest city in Ireland, it feels like a large city with an energetic and vital urban center, yet charming like a small town. This was my first trip back in 10 years. Much has changed, yet it remains so familiar.
BEARA PENINSULA, IRELAND
The Beara peninsulas is in west Cork. It is probably the least visited and populated of the three peninsulas in southwest Ireland. It has a raw, rugid beauty. You feel distance and time away from the world.
DINGLE PENINSULA, IRELAND
Dingle is our favorite area in southwest Ireland. Great B&Bs, beautiful scenery, Mulcahy pottery, and the Guinness always seems to taste better.
